A chemist by training, a watercolour artist by passion—those locutions might be precise to illustrate Azman Md. Nor’s journey as a watercolour artist. Popular among enthusiasts as Azmannor, fewer know that he graduated from UiTM Shah Alam with a bachelor’s degree in Applied Chemistry.
Nonetheless, his passion never faded. For the last 10 years, driven by his passion for the watercolour art medium, Azmannor has rediscovered his passion and started his journey to be a self-taught watercolorist, despite not having any particular professional watercolour training beforehand.
Today, Azmannor is widely recognised as one of the most talented emerging watercolour artists, especially in the local sphere. Those who are following his works noticeably admire his ability to render his own unique identity on each of his exceptional artworks, especially in the way he manipulates the technique of colour mixing and brush strokes.
As strong as his passion for painting goes, so does his faith in the watercolour art itself. Azmannor and his friends started their own independent art gallery, Warna Air Studio Gallery, and founded a watercolour street group known as Gangsta Watakala, focusing on cultivating public awareness of the watercolour arts and their contribution and development towards society.
